Client duties are more focussed in CDM2015. The new regulation recognise the importance of the client as the head of the supply chain. Clients are best placed to set health and safety standard throughout the project. Most projects will involve client discharging duties under CDM.
As a client you therefore need to appoint a Principal Designer (PD) from the existing design team on projects where more than one contractor is anticipated on site. You must also appoint a Principal Contractor.
If you do not make these appointments, you will be deemed, as the Client, to be taking on these roles yourself.
A clients other duties include submission of an F10 to the HSE, provision of information to the PD for the purposes of pre-construction Information, duties regarding welfare provision throughout the project. In addition clients need to ensure those they appoint are competent.
If we are providing another service already for the project we can also be appointed to act as the PD. Alternatively, if you chose as the client to take on these responsibilities yourself we can offer a CDM consultancy service to provide this expertise and carry out the role on your behalf.
Although the PD replaces the former CDM-C role, the PD is not required to provide clients with health and safety guidance or ensure they comply with their duties under CDM2015. We believe that clients desire and value a CDM advisor to help them comply with health and safety regulations and we are able to offer this service.
