Project Profile

Wrest Park Visitor Centre Silsoe

Working with English Heritage, SWH assisted with the design and construction of a new visitor centre, as well as a car park, located within a historic walled garden.

Scott White and Hookins were employed by English Heritage to assist with all stages, from Heritage Lottery fund application through to construction, of a new visitor centre, car park and alterations to existing historical buildings.

The visitors centre is located adjacent to the historic garden wall, and the new structure had to remain independent of it.

Our structural solution utilised materials from environmentally sustainable sources, with a plywood decked roof, supported by Laminated Veneer Lumber roof beams, supported on a timber frame structure.

The car park is also located within the walled garden. Our design utilised a compacted stone sub-base and grass reinforcement system to give a softer landscaped appearance, whilst allowing the area to remain free draining.
