Vauxhall Station Step Free Access Vauxhall, London
To support accessibility, SWH supported TFL with the structural and temporary works design for step free access requirements at Vauxhall underground station.
As part of the step free access programme, Scott White and Hookins were appointed the structural and temporary works designers for an important accessibility project at Vauxhall Station, working with contractor, Bechtel.
The structural design elements comprised primarily of the design and detailing of significant new openings through the main station wall and the support of the station roof slab, to allow load bearing internal below ground walls to be demolished.
SWH produced an innovative design which could be installed without the need for any significant temporary works.
Secondary structural design elements comprised demolition and rebuilding of the ticket hall accommodation, formation of new service openings, refurbishment of the escalator access trays and associated temporary works.
All of the elements required approval documents to be produced including CDS's and QSLA’s, with submissions being controlled by our own QA procedures and feeding into the overall project procedures, as required by Bechtel and London Underground.
SWH worked hard to meet a tight programme for the design elements, in order to meet the construction programme deadlines and allow time for approvals to be obtained.
