Project Profile

Science and Enterprise Park, Masterplanning Loughborough University

This 59-hectate Science and Enterprise Park required assessment of existing and future infrastructure requirements, as well as appraisal of main utilities, highway and traffic demands, and surface and foul water drainage.

Scott White and Hookins provided Civil Engineering, Traffic & Transport and Highway Engineering services, as well as infrastructure assessment, for the Science and Enterprise Park (SEP), for its proposed phased development.

The 59-hectare SEP site is located adjacent to junction 23 of the M1 in Loughborough, Leicestershire, which is also adjacent to the western end of the Loughborough University campus.

Our work comprised of a study to determine the existing infrastructure feeding the site and to review the future infrastructure requirements for the next phases of development. We assessed existing capacities and requirements to upgrade any off site infrastructure to accommodate the proposed development.

We appraised electricity, gas, water, telecommunications supply and demand, as well as highway and traffic requirements.

Both surface and foul water drainage was considered, with a strategy developed in conjunction with the proposed phasing, taking account of risks highlighted in the flood risk assessments (FRA). A mixture of both soft landscaping, permeable paving, swales and attenuation ponds was proposed.

For budget purposes, SWH also provided advice on costs for key infrastructure and drainage, broken down by phase.
