Project Profile

Roads and External Works University of Leicester

SWH re-designed the main entrance to a university campus, to include a better visibility for road access and exit, as well as a cycle lane and improved footpaths, all with minimal disruption.

As part of a phased campus re-modelling and landscaping project, Scott White and Hookins re-designed the main entrance to the University's academic campus.

The project involved the demolition of an existing lodge to improve visibility for vehicles and to create more space.

The work was carefully coordinated and phased with the contractor to ensure normal activities on the busy campus could continue, whilst construction was carried out.

The entrance was widened to provide filtered 2 lane access and exit, and utilised existing control barriers. A dedicated cycle lane was designed and installed as well as significant upgrades to pedestrian footpaths to improve circulation and safety.

We prepared the civil engineering specification and construction details for all of the highway work.

Throughout construction, we undertook regular site inspections and liaised closely with the Landscape Architect, Contractor and University Estates team to ensure successful completion of the project.
