Project Profile

Pentalver Container Yard Nicholas Road, Felixstowe

SWH recommended the most economic solutions, as well as the use recycled materials, for the design of this new 19,000m2 container yard.

Scott White and Hookins were responsible for obtaining planning permission and preparing the detailed design for this scheme, which involved the construction of a new 19,000m2 container yard.

The yard was designed as a heavy duty block paved pavement. In order to minimise construction waste, a full 3D cut and fill model was undertaken to establish the optimum site levels.

The existing yard hardstanding was processed on site and re-used as general engineering fill, below the new hardstanding.

In order to keep the site falls to a minimum, a new 150m long sheet piled retaining wall was installed along the site's south boundary.

During the design phase, this solution was value engineered, in conjunction with the Contractor, to obtain the most economic solution.

This scheme also involved widening the site exit road to install a new exit gatehouse, as well as site wide CCTV and lighting.
