Project Profile

Northstowe Education Campus Phase 2

Northstowe Education Campus Phase 2 provides a coordinated cluster of new education facilities for Cambridgeshire County Council, including a primary school, nursery secondary school and post-16 centre.

Delivered by Kier Construction, the development forms a key part of the wider Northstowe expansion and provides modern learning environments across all age groups.

SWH supported the project as BREEAM Assessor, helping the team target and achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating across all four buildings. The scale of the campus and its position within an active new town construction zone required careful planning, particularly in managing construction traffic and routes used by pupils, staff and the community. Ensuring safe, segregated access formed a key part of the project’s coordination effort.

The sustainability strategy incorporated site-wide considerations such as transport planning, ecology, drainage and overheating. SWH helped ensure practical and effective solutions were adopted. Enhanced biodiversity was a strong feature of the scheme, with varied planting, bird and bat boxes and wider ecological measures integrated throughout the campus.

The completed development provides essential long-term education capacity for Northstowe, delivering efficient, modern and environmentally responsible facilities that support the area’s continued growth while contributing to the wider vision for a sustainable new town.

Target rating - Very Good

Final rating - Very Good
