Project Profile

Kings Community Church Southampton

A new 1300 seat auditorium and associated community facilities for a church in Hedge End, Southampton, which due to their strong presence in the local community required increased space to accommodate the pre-school, youth and charitable services provided.

The development will incorporate additional facilities to complement the existing church building. As well as the large new assembly auditorium, associated facilities include entrance foyer, dedicated creche, youth room, book shop, kitchen offices and additional toilet facilities.

The existing site had a significant slope across it and the new extension was cut in, with retaining structures as necessary forming the substructure structural elements.

New car parking areas to accommodate the increase in traffic generation were also provided by terracing and reprofiling the ground to suit the gradients and minimise earth movements. With limited funds the scheme needed to be cost effective and by using ground improvement techniques for the substructures and cellular beams in the main roof structure, costs were kept to minimum.
