Kennett Primary School Cambridgeshire
The Kennett Primary School project formed part of a new housing development in the village of Kennett, near Newmarket, creating a modern replacement for the original 1865 Grade II listed school.
The new school, delivered with the project team Kier Construction, provides contemporary primary education facilities, integrated nursery provision, supporting infrastructure and landscaped open spaces to serve the growing village.
SWH delivered BREEAM consultancy throughout the project’s lifecycle, supporting the design and construction teams in embedding sustainability measures and evidencing credit compliance. Close collaboration with the project team ensured that sustainability objectives remained central to design decisions and construction quality.
The completed school became a fully electric building powered by Air Source Heat Pumps and Photovoltaic panels, delivering a modern, energy-efficient environment for pupils and staff. The project achieved a 136% Biodiversity Net Gain, demonstrating a significant uplift in ecological value. Performance in sustainable transport was strong, securing 83% of available credits in the BREEAM Transport section and reflecting the project’s emphasis on safe, accessible, low-carbon movement within the new community.
The new school now provides improved learning spaces, enhanced environmental performance and long-term value.
