Scott White and Hookins provide a full range of Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering and Design services to both the private and public sectors.

Our team includes engineers and transport planners who have many years of experience working in the public and private sector. This experience enables us to provide specialist support for developers, project managers, architects, planning consultants, local authorities and government agencies.

We are skilled in working independently but also enjoy being part of a larger team.

Planning Applications and Appeals

We can provide our clients with creative and technical assistance at every stage of the planning process, from pre-application discussions with the local authority and the assessment of preliminary and existing designs, through design development and into outline or full planning.

We undertake parking assessments, transport assessments and transport statements, which demonstrate the likely impact of travel associated with a new development, and propose mitigation measures, where necessary. We can also provide post-application services and support planning appeals.

Travel Planning

We work with our clients to provide bespoke, robust and innovative Travel Plans that fulfil the requirements of local authorities and that can deliver sustainable change.

A travel plan typically includes ‘hard’ measures, such as changing the physical layout of a site or the surrounding highway, and ‘soft’ measures, such as policies, systems and procedures to influence travel behaviour.

Another aspect of travel planning includes the impact of service and delivery traffic. This can have a detrimental effect on the efficient operation of a site, as well as damaging the environment.

Studies and Surveys

We offer feasibility studies in order to identify opportunities and challenges, and appraise transport options.

Studies can cover development proposals, area-wide or route management schemes. In addition, we also carry out traffic count surveys, interpret data to predict traffic growth, and can undertake detailed traffic and junction modelling, using industry standard technology.

SWH's Traffic and Transport team can offer design services for all traffic types and road users. We offer parking management surveys; bus priority measures and facilities; traffic calming options for private developments and adopted highways; cycle schemes, including lanes and storage facilities; and pedestrian facilities to optimise safety and convenience.
