BREEAM The BREEAM Team (Spotlight #5)

Scott White and Hookins have been licensed Assessors since 2007, with our specialist team continuing to grow in response to our great success in this key service area.

The BREEAM Team

More than just a Rating

We believe in providing more than just an assessment and BREEAM score. Using our years of experience in the construction process, along with extensive knowledge of sustainability and environmental design we are always keen to work with the Client and design team as an integral member of the project team. Our early involvement allows us to work with the team to review and understand the projects goals before tailoring the sustainability objectives to suit the site restrictions, schemes needs and cost restraints. This can directly assist the project to achieve its targeted BREEAM rating whilst having tangible cost benefits on both the project and potentially the building's future running costs.

All of our BREEAM assessment projects benefit from the direct involvement of a BREEAM Accredited Professional (BREEAM AP). The qualification was introduced by BRE to allow successful candidates to demonstrate specialist skills in sustainability and environmental design, together with a high level of competence in the BREEAM Assessment process. It also means that projects where we are appointed early on automatically qualify for 2 Innovation credits as a contribution towards the final BREEAM rating.

BREEAM schemes

The Scott White and Hookins team has qualified and licensed Assessors covering the vast majority of BRE's schemes including:

  • Education (including Schools and Further Education)
  • Higher Education
  • Offices
  • Healthcare
  • Industrial
  • Retail
  • Other Buildings (schemes outside the standard BRE categories- including Courts, Prisons, Data Centres etc)
  • In-Use (assessment of existing building stock)

Pre Assessments

A pre-assessment is an initial review of the site, record and survey information along the proposed design to predict the likely BREEAM rating that would be achieved in a BREEAM assessment. It is generally based on information at an early stage of design development when there may be little of the evidence that will subsequently be necessary for an assessment. The experience and knowledge of the person carrying out the pre-assessment is therefore vital in obtaining an accurate prediction. Whether to satisfy a planning / funding condition, or as an initial review at the start of a formal BREEAM assessment process, our team can efficiently and cost effectively carry out pre- assessments along with producing accompanying reports.
