Access Statements and AuditsBy law, the disabled must be accommodated in both existing and new buildings.
Our experts undertake access audits of existing properties to provide clients with a detailed review of existing provisions and identify areas that require improvement. For new buildings, we prepare access statements if any elements of the building do not comply with Part M of the Building Regulations. This justifies the provision for disabled persons and explains why full compliance has not been achieved.
Access to buildings by disabled persons must be considered by all building owners. This applies to existing and new buildings.
For existing buildings we can provide an access audit. This is a detailed review of existing provisions for disabled persons, identifying features of the building or its management that require improvements.
New buildings will require an access statement when there are elements of a building which do not fully comply with the Approved Document for Part M of the Building Regulations.
The statement will justify why adequate provisions for disabled persons have been made despite the building not being in full compliance with the Approved Document. We can arrange for this Statement to be prepared by our associated practice.
